How I view Sandhole

Though I don’t belong to this place but I am tempted to write an interesting anecdote about it. As everyone knows people usually poke fun at if someone tells that he or she is from Sarkahghat/ Sandhole. The persons react as if he/she from some other planet. Long years I was also bit plagued by this mindset. Even one of my doctor friend from Mandi (though jokingly) said Sandhol means SAND + HOLE. Means not a worthy place. But later when I happened to visit this small village on invitation from another doctor (who basically belongs to Sandhol; now settled in Mandi) I was not only pleasantly surprised but mesmerized too see the pristine beauty of this hamlet. Located besides river Beas, Sandhol is as beautiful as it can be. The beautiful lush green fields greet the visitor when someone enters this village via Dharampur. All my myth shattered. I am all praise for this village which competes with the Balh valley when it comes to plains. Somehow if people of this area are tough, I owe this to tough terrain which connects this village with Mandi & Kangra distt. Moreover the toughness is manifested when the people of this place are selected in distinguished services like army, teaching , medical & engineering etc. The apathy of the various governments in developing this place might be one of reasons that this place is misnomer for good place. Otherwise the place & the people are very good. I must say that we should not be biased about any place/people just because someone else has already opinionated about it. I like this place like I do other places.

PLEASE IGNORE SOME SPELLING MISTAKES AS I USED T9 DICTIONARY INPUT METHOD WHILE WRITING. ESPECIALLY ‘HAMLET’ HAS BEEN WRITTEN AS HELMET. KINDLY IGNORE FEW OTHER MISTAKES AS WELL.
