Shooter Vijay Kumar made us proud

Vijay Kumar son of Himachal Pradesh and hero of India who made 1 billion people proud by hitting the bull’s eye and clinching the silver medal in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol was conferred ‘Himachal Gaurav’ award, presented a draft of Rs one crore and a residential plot by Himachal Pradesh Govt. at the state-level Indepdence Day function at Kullu.
This is not the first time that our local hero brought laurel to country. Vijay has won many medals in various international competitions since 2006 that includes 5 gold medals from Commonwealths Games in Melbourne & Delhi. Army also promoted him as Subedar Major and was given a cash award of Rs.30 lakh along with a commendation card by Indian Army chief Gen. Bikram Singh. The union government had conferred Arjuna award to Vijay Kumar in 2007.
The medals and facilitation to winners will motivate them to attain greater heights. It will also encourage the youth to look at sports as a career and work diligently to earn a name and fame in sports.

    Sports ministry has appreciated the efforts of our medal winners and will conferred country’s highest sporting honour the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna for year 2012 jointly to Olympic medallists, shooter Vijay Kumar and wrestler Yogeshwar Dutt.

    Vijay has brought Harsour, his ancestral village in the Barsar division of Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh on the world map. People of little known remote village are very happy and proud on the achievement of their son.
